WETLAB Courses
We provide many hands on courses at the National Wetlab Centre which is based in Gloucestershire England. Examples of our courses are
ADVANCED AVR. The aims of this course are to help delegates understand the decision making process that leads to selection of the right aortic valve prosthesis and the strengths and weakness of each choice available. The evidence base and the techniques to achieve the best result from the options available will all be discussed together with the opportunity to practice the skills necessary to deploy the prosthesis in the ideal manner.
Aortic Dissection. This course helps delegates understand the concepts and evidence base needed to make decisions when faced with patients presenting with aortic dissection. How to approach the surgical options and understanding the decision making process for the cardiac surgeon. The Wetlab sessions will enable the delegates to practice the techniques required to achieve good outcomes under the guidance of an experienced surgeon in TOE.
Basic Mitral. This course is intended to allow trainees to build the foundations of their mitral repair practice. It will include the theory, the evidence base and practical application for the cardiac surgeon confidently to approach patients with mitral valve disease with the option of repairing their native valve.
Advanced Mitral repair. The course will cover general principles of mitral repair, Carpentier quadrangular resection, physiological approach to mitral repair, chordal apparatus and MVR and subvalvular presevation. There will be a combination of lectures and practical Wetlab’s.
Stentless valve surgery. The course helps delegates to present the evidence base for the stentless option for aortic valve replacement and to deal with patient selection questions. The delegates will have the opportunity to practice the techniques learned in the lecture theatre in the Wetlab and thus gain the skills necessary to approach stentless valve implantation in the clinical context.
CABG. This course enables delegates to improve both proximal and distal coronary anastomosis skills. The course will include theory sessions to understand the theories underpinning approaches to grafting the coronary arteries as well as extensive Wetlab sessions where all delegates will have the opportunity to put those theories into practice in order to achieve high quality grafts.
PAR Excellence. This course will develop practical skills needed to perform anastomosis and to create a personal skill training framework to enable focussed practice outside the clinical environment by using a range of analogues that can be produced at home.
Each course is structured and developed for specific delegate requirements.
