SCTS ST3 A Course Kick Off

The Introduction to Speciality Training in Cardiothoracic Surgery Course for ST3 A delegates has kicked off here at the National Wetlab Centre, Gloucester.

Over the next three days the delegates will attend talks and hands on Wetlab sessions covering a large spectrum of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Wetlabs include.

Aortic and Venous Cannulation and Decannulation. Chest drain insertion and management, Tracheostomy and Mini-Tracheostomy insertion Wetlabs, Proximal and distal anastomisis, Thoracotomy and VATS port insertion, Pulmonary resection and Aortic Valve replacement.

The course has been designed as a boot camp so that the new trainees have a short introduction of a wide range of techniques used in Cardiothoracic surgery.

Whilst over the next few days there will be a lot of classes focusing on the practical side of the specialty, it is also a fantastic opportunity for these newly appointed NTN ST3’s to spend time with each other talk to the consultants and ask questions about their career Cardiothoracic surgery. The course is being led by over 15 Cardiac and Thoracic consultant surgeons from all over Great Britain and is an SCTS organised event.
